She’s currently working on approvals. The June dates, also @ Doswell, will likely be 6/26 & 6/27 @ Doswell.
- Cardio Clinics: Meejin said that there are 7 spots open for the September 13th Cardio Clinic @ Meadows Canine Lodge, 15023 Patrick Meadows Way, Montpelier, VA 23192. We’ll close registration out this coming weekend, but we may leave the link up until it fills.
- Scent Work Committee: The August Buried and Container trials at MDTC were successful and we had lots of great volunteer. There are lots of things in the works for 2027 and will update when we have definitive information.
- Fast CAT & Lure Coursing Committee: Amanda Flourakis reminded everyone that our next Fast CAT will be in February 20 & 21, 2027. She urged people to start thinking about volunteering!
- WAE Committee: Tonya Adamson, Amanda Florakis and Meejin shared that will not being having a WAE this year and 2027 is up in the air at this point.
- Obedience/Rally Committee: No updates. Tabling rally and obedience at this time.
Old Business:
- Nominating Committee: Dawn (chair) reported on behalf of the committee (Silke Satzinger & Melanie Parrish, with Carolyn Schofield as backup committee member) that all of the current position holders are willing to serve for the 2026-2027 year. She believed that the Education Committee was short one person and that we needed a DPCA Delegate, but had reached and for those positions and was waiting to hear back. Dawn will ask folks if they want to join the Education Committee, and Tonya Adamson and Christina Tindall are willing to serve as delegates if the person invited declines.
The final slate will be emailed with the Board Meeting Minutes, and voting will happen at the next General Club Meeting via conference call/Zoom on Monday 9/14 @ 6:30pm. The new board, etc., has to be voted in before September 30th.
New Business:
- September Annual Meeting: The Annual General Club Meeting will be held on Monday 9/14 @ 6:30pm via Conference Call/Zoom. This is an important meeting to attend – we need enough members present to vote in the new Board and Officers.
- October Board Call: TBD
- No meetings in November & December
- Education Committee – 2027 Ideas: There was much discussion about ideas for the committee in 2027. Jac Carrington will be at the upcoming Pet Paloosa in Fredericksburg, and she offered to get info about a CDPC booth for next year. Multiple members on the call talked about how the Education Committee and members can take holter echo info to local vets offices to raise awareness about DCM and the importance of regular testing, and to also highlight low cost echo clinics. Jac will contact the DPCA about whether they have an education kit.
- Issue Raised Re: Dogs Left in Hot Cars during Trials: Jac raised an issue asking about how are we going to handle a situation if a competitor leaves their dog(s) in their car with the windows rolled up at one of our trials and an AKC rep shows up. She was at a recent MDTC Fast CAT where she witnessed a dog being left in a car for 45 minutes with the windows rolled up. Folks discussed handing out a card with the AKC and Virginia rules about dogs in cars. Meejin does not think it’s really relevant to our Fast CAT trials because we hold them in color months. However, everyone agreed that if we have any type of trial in warm months where indoor crating isn’t available that we should include that in the briefing and possibly patrol the parking lot. Some people suggested we don’t hold trials at venues where indoor crating is not available. Jac is determined to get an official answer from AKC on what we are responsible for and how clubs are supposed handle that situation, and she will keep us posted!
Meeting adjourned at 7:26pm
