My name is Cathy and on February 18th my husband and I lost a wonderful companion - Zoe our almost 10 year old Dobie. She had kidney disease which caused severe anemia. Zoe put up a good fight to stay with me for several months but finally she was just too tired. She's been gone just one week but the tears are still flowing. Zoe was a such a BIG part of my life - she was the Alfa female in her litter. It took me a full year to train my sassy girl but she turned out to be a winner! She was our third Doberman; the best and the most beautiful! After owning Dobermans since 1985 I can tell you that there is no other dog that I would ever own. Once a Doberman owner always a Doberman owner. Actually, Dobermans own you you don't own them. They are the most loyal companions anyone could ever ask for! Our house feels so empty without Zoe but I don't want to rush into getting a puppy just yet. Maybe when the time comes I will consider a 2 or 3 year old Dobie. Thanks for reading my story....

I absolutely love my dobie. Sometimes he is so smart, he is stupid, but that makes the breed. He is cropped and docked and is absolutely beautiful.

I have been a Doberman lover for many years now and have had Dobes in my life since I was 19 years old. Three years ago I brought Sunny home when she was 9 weeks old. I had problems with her tempermant shortly after bringing her home; wanting to be Alpha and I knew that that had to change ASAP. Even though I have had experience with this wonderful breed, I did not have the education on how to deal with an Alpha female. I searched the web, found this website and contacted the president who was very helpful, and with her guidance and direction, puppy classes and day care, Sunny soon became a loving and respectful member of my family. For the three years that I have had Sunny, I have always felt fortunate that whenever I have ANY question about Sunny, I can always rely on a quick and educated response from this club and its President. I would encourage anyone who is interested in being a parent of a Doberman to contact this club first. Brenda J. Davis

OK Janice, this is for you. To all my fellow dobe lovers, i would like to take back any negative comments that I posted some time ago about my dobe girl (lexi). At the time, I was speaking from my heartbreak of losing an awesome 13 year old friend (jada). It was my "bad" that I chose a very energetic puppy when I was wanting a very laid back well behaved adult. Lexi is now 1 1/2 years old and the most beautiful big girl I've ever seen. When I exercise her and give her the structured attention she needs, she is awesome. always at my feet, my loyal companion lays beneath my desk at work and does her job (works her kong, chews her bones, takes a nap ....)She is my protector at home (I will never be acosted by a squirrel, she keeps them at bay), she guards my fishpond outside by alerting me when she sees a cat through the window, and she will do anything for food (which makes my job easier in the ring) and now that she has a little male companion, I'm in heaven once again. tammy and lexi in Portsmouth

Hi, I have a 18 week old Doberman. She is really a joy. I was just wondering if Doberman's go through a "stage" when they are growing? She just seems to be all legs! Will she fill out? She seems so skinny, but you can't really see her ribs and she eats 4-6 cups of food a day. She weighs 33.8 pounds. Is that about right for her age?

We adopted a Dobe she was 10months old. Now 14months! The family has had Dobe's before but with daugther off to collage and both parents working the dog was crated most of the day and with health problems the wife could not take care / handle the young pup. They said it wasn't fair to the dog to live this way. WE have fenced in yard and the dog has free roam of the house. daughter dorming home(collage) son high school freshman and wife at home, me working 2nd shift. I have time to walk/play during day and kids do evenings. we socialize the dog around the neighborhood and at pet stores. But we still have problems with the nips at your arms and the jump and bite after play time. and still have problem with interacting with other dogs. Walks very well on leash, sit, stay, down, give me paw, wait, and other commands she is 100% better from day one. My question is! Is it the creat time that were still trying to de-program? and what else can we do to help her socialized and stop the nips? Thank You, John john422seabee@hotmail.com

PLEASE READ: Hello again, I hope all is well with all of you Dobe owners. I am a little worried about Roxi, she has Von Wilebrands as I mentioned before and she was in heat about a week ago and I had her locked in my back yard and locked in a shed and a stray dog still got to her, so I have scheduled to have her spayed and I'm really afraid that she is going to bleed to death during the surgery. The vet says that Roxi is 7% von wilebrands and I hope that is not alot but I think it is like the most possible. I ask that if you read this you keep us in mind during this trying time. I think the Doberman breed are very energetic. I have only had my puppy two days and already I am head over heels in love with him. My Doberman has already found someone to bond with, ME although he is supposed to be my Mum's dog as she has wanted one for 27 years. I can uderstand how he is bonding with me more, it is simply the fact that we are both boys and we are both completely mad. He is eleven weeks and I am eleven years. I hope that in the next couple of years that I will be able to compete in dog agility with him.

Hello, I hope all of you Dobe owners out there are doing great and having happy holidays. I am still unable to get Roxi's ears to stand but, we're hanging in there and taping and untaping as advised by Silke. Each time I untape her ears I see a little more improvement. She is still a little obnoxious and I would love to send her to a good obedience school if anyone that reads this knows of one around the Jonesboro, AR. Cape Girardeau, MO. or Memphis, TN. area reads this I would greatly appreciate it if you would drop the name of it or any other info you have regarding it into my email: B_Jackson_03@yahoo.com Thanks, Billy and Roxi.

I am actaully scared of most dogs. I realy wanted a smaller one, but there temperment wasn't that great. I never thought i was a dog person, but I'm starting to realize that I just never gave them a chance. When I was little I had neighbors that had dobe and used them purly for breeding. They where not treated right, so they where very mean from the abuse. They would get out sometimes and I remember being frozen from fear. Yhis puppy is so grat though, she's already so smart. When Iread about these dogs I could not believe what they said about them. These weren't the dogs I remembered. The dobs I new where vishes, bit, and only bad people had these dogs. Im alot older now and I know if you treat a person or animal bad their going to lash out. I am very nervous though about this Von Wilderbrans dis. My puppy has not had her ears done. Do they noy test them for this first? Can I request it? What preventative measures can I take

I just purchased a doberman puppy for my two girls"santa braught her". I researched long and hard to come to the decision of a dobby. It's very odd that this dog was the one that repeated itself in my reasearch because I WAS scared to death of them. Having this puppy has been a wounderful experence for the whole family and my only regreat is that I didn't overcome my fear earlier & get one sooner. I will be visiting ur site more in the future.

My name is billy and I am fairly new to the Doberman experience I have only been in the game for about six months and already I have encountered multiple problems with my Dobe. Her name is Roxi and she is fawn colored, her tail was already docked when we got her however, it was still to long and it had a place on the end of it where there was no hairso we hd it clipped and her ears cropped and she nearly bled to death due to a bleeding disorder that I was completely ignorant to called "Von Wilebrands" and it has been close to five months since her ears have been cropped and they still will not stand. I have been doing alot of research on Dobes since I have encountered so many problems and one of the guys I have talked to from this website has been more helpful than any other source. Roxi is obnoxious at times and I'm sure many other Dobes are the same but I plan to hang in there and I advise every other Dobe owner to do the same and be very patient. Billy and Roxi

I love your web site (and the music). My fascination with dobes started 25 years ago, when as a Veterinary Technician we did alot of ear crops so I was around alot of puppies. I got my first female dobe 13 years ago and just had to put her to sleep recently. She was and will forever be the best dog in the world. there is not a thing I would have changed about her (except for her facination with socks, my joke is she swallowed 200 socks and passed 197). this passed year, as she was aging, I was so blessed to be able to stay at home with her and care for my little old lady. Along with my dobe, I had a male lab mix. the two of them were awesome. My lab died 10 months ago at the age of 8 from cancer, so now they are both gone and i don't believe I will ever have it that good again. My love for Jada (dobe) made me think that I will always have a female dobe and a male mix breed companion. Until Lexi came into the picture. When my dobe was showing signs of age, I started looking for another female that she could rub off onto. My new dobe is Lexi and I have had her for 8 months. She is the most spirited, playful, rough, goofball I have ever met. I'm big into obedience (PCOTC) but she has been my biggest challenge. I'm rethinking if I will ever own another one. My loss of Jada and my dissapoinment in Lexi has left me in a wierd place. Tammy and Lexi, portsmouth va

We rescued Jester six years ago and he was an absolute joy to our family. We couldn't believe someone would dispose of him like he was trash. He was the best dog with my children and he will be missed. We had to send Jester to Dobe heaven on November 11, 2006. His spine had massive degeneration and paralysis set in. We estimated him to be 8 or 9. We survived one bra eating (he passed it), two corn cob surgeries (he couldn't pass them) Corn on the cob was banned from our house. We also survived a torn cruciate ligament with surgery. We could not survive the spine. Our loss came very sudden and it was on the heels of having to survive the passing of our other family pet, Juno, an 11 year old Rottweiler on September 18, 2006. We loved them both and know they are in doggie heaven together. We hope to adopt or purchase another pure bred doberman in the future. Our family is healing now and some days are harder than others. We wish they would live as long as we do! The Wheeler Family in Virginia Beach KJMW2@cox.net

She is so smart, loves walks, and stays at our side whereever we go. We take her to training classes every wednesday and she is getting so much smarter. If I ever get another dog, theres no doubt it will be a dobe.

Dobes rock,i have 2 black & tan girls, the oldest one is an ex- showing dog, absolutly beautiful, and the youngest one is an up and coming agilty champ, and i have started her in a display class, where she gets to jump through hoops of fire. Id like to leave a lil note abput how great these dogs are, i consider this breed to be the most intelligent dog i have seen in a long time, one of mine, poppy, has got more brains than most border collies and poodles ive met, and outdoes any german shepherd easily. They are great also because of how easy to handle they are, I handle both of mine, and being only 13years old many people see this as a task to hard for me, but i have proved them wrong by turning out 2 well trained dogs, though they still have short attention spans :)

Hi from the Birmingham and District Doberman Club (UK) Great site!I think most people that have owned dobes find it hard to have any other breed. Keep up the good work promoting the breed, we have a hard time in this country getting people to believe these dogs are not all dangerous and are in fact one of the most eager to please their owners.

We just added a red/rust little guy to our house a few weeks ago named Rommel and were hoping that someone could help us find a reputable vet in the area for ear cropping. If anyone knows of a GOOD one please email me at perrymans@yahoo.com. Thanks so much. Layne Perryman

I purchased a dobe pup in October 04. She is a red/rust pup and I couldn't love her more. I have owned Rottweilers in the past and recently lost one to old age. I decided on a Dobe for my next companion. I am self employed and am able to take her with me at all times. I am very excited about this pup, but am having problems with her ears. I am interested in joining your club, and participating in the events. If anybody can offer assistance with this ear problem, I would be forever in their debt. I wish you all the happiest of Holidays and may God bless you and yours. Sincerelym, Judy K. Langford (804)794-5335 Home Phone (804) 400-7020 Cell Phone E-Mail Judyl@globalweb.net

Silke, I want to thank you for being a sweet person and a Guardian Angel to all the Dobes. I'm sure if all the Dobes you came across could talk, they would definitely thank you and the club, for all you've done and continue to do for them. You're truly their Guardian Angel! I will continue to visit the club's web site so I can see all the Dobes and enjoy the pictures. Besides, our son likes to see all of "Jack's cousins", as he calls them. Sincerely with Dobe love, ~Jeff, Myriam and Jonathan~

I am interested in finding out what you are able to do with unethical breeders. I bought a pup from a breeder in Virginia and she is only a little over a year, after getting her checked out by the vet upon her arrival she was declared unfit for purchase the breeder refused to accept this and now she is a canidate for VonWillabrand's disease and I am having her spayed. Please let me know if you would like my whole story and documentation on this breeder so he can be stopped. He also sold me her without her tail being docked.

My name is Beverley Prillaman from Newport News, Va. I have corresponded back and forth with Silke and Donna on many occasions. I had one red Doberman that I lost last year to bone cancer. He was the love of my life, (excluding my husband and son.) On my recent search for a Doberman puppy I consulted with your site on many times before my purchase. On 4/1/04 I now have a black male Doberman puppy. I would like to say how much I appreciate the help and advise from Silke. It does help talking to other puppy owners, but not as much as fellow Doberman owners that can share in their experiences and give good advise. I hope to continue talking with other Cavalier members and meeting you. Thanks again, Bev Prillaman

I think the Doberman Pinscher Club is a wonderful organization. When I needed help I didn't have to ask twice. When I needed surgery they helped me find a foster home for the length of my recovery. When health issues finally forced me to let go of my best friend, again, they were right there to help place her in just the right home!! For this I am thankful as I can't begin to tell you how much she meant to me. It is hard to let go of her as she was so special to me. Having someone understand and be there to console and help to handle the delicate situation is priceless!!! Thank you so much!! God Bless on your future endeavors. Catherine Houseman

You could either e-mail the information to lizareed1976@yahoo.com or give us a call at 804-967-9075. I have looked on the internet, but there is very limited information about breeders specifically in VA. Thank you, Elizabeth Fleshman

My family lost our wonderful dobie three years ago. I've had alot of dogs in my life but he (MAX) was the best ever. He was a member of our family just like a son,we got him when he was a puppy. I've promised my daughter we would get another little puppy Doberman for her to grow-up with. Max was two years old when we had our daughter and he watched out for her. They also played together all the time until he died of cancer. We still miss him very much. So I'm checking out the Doberman Club's, rescue and other organizations in Hampton Roads in Va. mandmhandyman@yahoo.com
